Life was dramatic when the wedding plans were in full bloom, moods were swinging for the best and the majority of those involved were pleased with the decisions being made. It was fully entertaining to hear the voices, opinions and stories of those who are of a different generation, culture, and for multiple commas sake; genders. Hilarity ruled with comments flying from mothers and mother-in-laws to be alike.
Now, amidst the calm of a married life, sweetness is in the air, among love and other things, and I will boldly proclaim from my honeymooning perspective that I don't see how this could go sour, how it could fizzle or die or dare to be covered in dust. Endorphin'd and bare legged, yes, but this belated summer shine is not completely to blame for these hopes and dreams that daily keep my lips curved up. And we shall call him husband - ta-da! - a title that flows from my lips and fingers with dis-comfort and un-ease. But one can only adjust to so much in such a short frame of time n'est pas? If a new name for my very own lover is too much to bare, how could anyone expect of me to find comfort in a new name for myself? That, I must say, is far too much. Yes married life blissfull and pure but let's not get carried away too far too fast, shall we? Let's ease ourselves into the routine of this commitment and all that comes with it. Yes. Let's.
Shortly and sweetly,
Vanny.

Encore
One of the many oddities about life, is the inability to maintain organization within thoughts, emotions, memories, and experiences. The times are countless when a memory has masterly tip toed in and re-kindled feelings thought to be long gone, and scenes dubbed acted and closed. Yet the lessons that are learned when these thoughts have dared to re-haunt are those that had yet to been learned and it is now that you are mildly able to, in the smallest of scales, weigh maturity and the lengths you have come since those years, months, and days that thankfully time has left behind.
As I sat yesterday amidst neighbors and strangers discussing blatantly the truths of our hearts, ashamedly leaving the weight of our words for the ears of those sitting close to bear, for a split second my words halted and I was perfectly aware of myself. Surrounded by my own panic, the most natural form of self-consciousness flowed over me. For a moment I sat across a small table from myself and watched the fake, real, sincere and concerned words flow from my mouth. Then it was gone, my sentence attempted to be put back together and in the name of distraction the conversation continued but with a lingering film of realization blurring my sight. Interesting.
The end of an era is drawing near to me quickly and with fearsome steps forward I approach the time with tears. It is shocking even to myself, how tangible are the breaking of ties between myself and my mother and padre. A seemingly physical procedure leaves me hanging with my new companion to re-attach myself to, leading us into a whold new world. Aladdin's words have never held so much weight in my life. It is then that the tears of joy race down my face for part 2 of the crying sensation featuring myself in my dark, dreary living room along with indescribeable feeling of soaring, tumbling, and freewheeling through an endless diamond sky. Ahhh, what a lonesome apartment will lead you to write. Putting my loneliness aside, I will boldly say that May 9th could not come sooner. Though terribly content with my current quality of life, I am more than confident that this life is going to only get better once that day has passed... It's meant to be.
Awake and dreaming,
this was,
Vanessa.

fall affair
I have been doing a fair amount of smiling lately, and although it would appear to be attributed to the dainty canadian cut on my second leftest finger, the harsh reality is that it is not. Though my duties of a wedding planner are keeping me entertained, excited, and in fact smiling, the truth is that these particular smiles are directly a result of the temperature. No, I am not one bearing seasonal affective disorder, plainly, fall brings out the best in me. As do treats, however, not in the same way. With boot clad feet, Sarah Harmer serenading me, and a latte in my hand, I feel as though the world is on my side and there ain't nothing gonna bring me down.
In other news, the amount of weirdos at the Forks are at an all-time high. This may always be the case but it would appear that the ratio of weirdos to normal people has hightened for the worse. On Mondays at the Junction there is a sale on coffee beans. Most of our bean sales are done on this day because as we all know, Winnipeg loves a sale. For those who regularly take advantage of this recurring low price, a pre-order is placed so they can have their pick of the litter. A.k.a any flavour or bean they want. For those who don't pre-order, the choice is limited to those that Monday's bean wall bestows.
Last Monday, I was serving coffee solo from 3-4:30 and in that short and i-podless time frame, the weirdest of them all took his toll. As it unfolded...
Light haired, male, and obese (a hint regarding my feelings towards him), the customer that would ruin my hour and half stood before the bean wall scrutinizing every title in the lot. Sitting on the counter were 25 lbs of Cocount Cream coffee beans already bagged for someone to pick up.
Customer: "Is this all you have today?"
Me: "Yep, only what's on the wall on Mondays!"
Customer: "Well what about that Cocount Cream?"
Me: "That's bagged for someone else already"
Customer:"Well are you going to put it out?"
Me:"... No... it's for someone to come pick up"
Customer: "Is there left overs?"
Me: "No sorry, if there was it would be on the wall."
Customer: "So this is all you have then?"
Me: "... Yes...."
Customer: "Okay I'll have 4lbs of highlander grog"
Me: "Sure!"
I ground this man's order of beans in a fairly efficient manner considering the annoyance he was already proving to be.
Me: "Here ya go! It's $36."
Customer: "Well, I have this coupon" (the coupon is buy one, get one free up to a value of $5)
Me: "Oh sorry, I don't believe I can accept that coupon on beans. It is only for menu items."
Customer: "Beans are a menu item."
Me: "No, they aren't, it's only for coffee drinks and cakes"
Customer: "It doesn't say that on there."
Me: "Well, that's what it is for. Also the beans are already on sale today"
Customer: "what does that matter?"
Me: "It says right here, not valid with any other offer."
Customer: "Fine then. It is good for the cakes? How much are they?"
Me: "$2.80 each with tax"
Customer: "$2.80 each? Okay I will get two butter tarts"
Me: "Sounds good, your total is $38.80"
Customer: "Alright, you took the coupon off that?"
Me: "Sure did"
Customer: "Well, I want to see a receipt"
Me: "No problem, here are the 4lbs of beans, the cakes are $2.50 each without tax so it took of $2.50 for one of them."
Customer:"$2.50 only! So I could have got four of them and then it would have taken off the $5.00"
Me: "No actually, the coupon is only good for buy one get one free, not buy two get two free"
Customer: "You are just full of rules aren't you!!!"
Me: "No, I just do my job."
Cusotmer: "Well you are smarter than you look"
Me: "Okay.. bye!"
Case and point. Winnipeg loves a sale, the Forks is abundant in weirdos. Annoying customers aside, the leaves that fall only a window away from my counter at the Forks make me feel as though I am taking full advantage of our extended fall. Though it may be the same length as any other year, this year it seems as though it is staying for longer than usual, and I am not taking it for granted. Daily my smiles show gratitude for this wonderful view and the sidewalks have never been so strolled by this lady. Life is grand in the wonderful months of the light jacket and grand they will be until my boots turn to sorels. Let's not get ahead of oursleves though. Here's to leaves that fall and to the love of a sale.
Yours for a day,
Vanasy.

Times change...
... It's nice when they do... Mostly.
For the past couple of months I have had the same sad song and finally, in the name of mental health, the song is changing it's tune. My repeated sob story is turning a leaf in a more positive, healthy and self-gratifying direction. I can't say that I am disappointed to inform you of my recent resignation at my fulfilling yet insanity inducing employment of the past seven months. In two weeks from yesterday I will be going West young man; heading right and down the street to serve the business folk their lunches by day and seat the yuppy's by night. To use the term that my newly aquired employee handbook references - a Kegger I will be. By weekend, I suppose, I'll be steaming milk and serving imperial cookies at my preferred hangout location: The Forks. From an 8 to 4:30er turned shift worker my life will become that which it is intended to be at the fresh new age of 21. No more bitter, raging cougars squealing stories of drunkeness and ma... I'll spare us both the details. Life will be grand, I'm hoping, and my attitude will improve drastically with each day I do not have to be at work at eight am and with each night I can stay up past ten thirty pm. Free spirit will be my name, much like that of my bicycle... or the same, and flying by the seat of my pants will be my game. That is the intent of this beloved career change made just in time for the wonderful summer months in Winnipeg to be enjoyed. Are you detecting enthusiasm? Your perception is correct my friend and I will continue to smile on until the creases in my face are near permanent.
In other notes of enthusiasm, Prince Caspian was just wonderful. I have to say that I much preferred the first of the two, however, the second was still a delight to my newishly framed eyes. My biggest quam was at the very end of the show: the lack of attention paid to Aslan and the very cute but seemingly out of place Regina Spektor tune being played to the romance in action between the new King of Narnia and the babe Queen Susan. I have high motivation to re-read my favorite childhood series as, while I was watching the movie, I could barely remember what was supposed to happen next. Shame. Ah well, heads high and onto bigger and better things, or those that were great to be repeated. Whatever the case may be, I'm in good spirits, and the spirits shall be good this weekend - not for me, but for some.
Here, here. BAM.

Je suis certaine que vous me comblez mais...
It has become ridiculously obvious to me that my life needs a shake. Not just one of a standard flavour; something exciting. I've been coasting for too long and I suppose the transient within me is itching to move on. It seems to be my typical and repeated story as of late, though it will continue to repeat until something is done in this apparently boring life of mine. Prevailing boredom aside, there are many positive things that occur daily which go un-mentioned. Consider them mentioned;
1. French class last night was fun, grammar-centered and small. I am glad my name on the list of attendance did not miss the check.
2. My most bestest friend is home and saw Aretha Franklin live which makes me like her even more. Whoa... but really.
3. I am in line to have my 2nd pedicure of life on Friday. So stoked for a foot massage.
4. In t minus one week I will be legally allowed to cross the border and order without shame a delicious bellini.
5. I am hopeful to have fun at a cool new job on Thursday?
6. My boyfriend is nice and shaved his face.
Blah blah blah... My yes is yes and my no is no... That's good enough right Jesus? Believe me when I say life is delightful. That's it, that's all.

Spring has sprung
The joys of waking up to a bedroom full of sunlight are abundant. Alas, my makeshift bedroom curtains allow these joys to bloom at the ungodly hour of six o'clock; it is no surprise considering they consist of one oversized flat blue sheet already thinned and faded due to the golden rays that summer 2007 beheld. I'll take it though, it seems to me that hitting the hay after 10pm is becoming easier and rising in the morning is not quite as difficult now that the blazing has begun. Though it is becoming easier Monday to Thursday, Friday is now upon us, the lack of hours devoted to serious slumber are taking their toll on my un-showered, un-makeuped self. Oh well, the deficiency that was time spent on sleep but were dedicated to wandering the love-filled streets, bbq's, and live music were of far more merit than time spent in my shoebox of a bedroom. I'll admit, given the chance, my drooping eyes might scream a different story. At any rate, life is grand and ambition for the summer is driving my mood from substandard to superb - I'm coping well with the change.

Naturally tragic
Woe is us Winnipeg, woe is us.
Waking up to snow slash slush slash hail hitting my window this morning was not something that I would like to repeat again in the near future. As if waking up at seven isn't hard enough sans snow, but with the sound of precipitation in addition to the dismality of another day at work, it was quite the feat. As motivation would have it, when the time was upon me to open that door to frigid flakes hitting my face I was there, in my place, ready to run. Here I am now sitting at a table full of Dell's with a bunch of boys wearing backwards hats and black hoodies, some chatting, some job searching and then there is me, being the least productive of them all. Tis grand to be the one with a job. Although I have used my time wisely exactly once this morning; Career Cruising. I figured if the clients get to find out what career they should dream of (my apologies for the negativity, but the chances are slim that it will happen), so should I. To my dismay, the top three careers that supposedly suit my character were all in the military. Accurate, n'est pas? Well, when I am forty and facing a dis-satisfied life, at least I will know that it is my own fault for choosing the wrong profession... for I should have been on the ground in a muddy trench; apparently there would inlay my satisfaction - Thanks Career Cruising.
Well, the room is filling and my hope is that there will be something worth while for me to entertain myself with in the next ten minutes. In preparation for the anticipated task, it is time for me to depart.
Stay dry,
Yours Truly.
